Paint Shop Pro - Version 7
Tangrams and PSP
This tutorial is a Challenge based on the ancient puzzle game of Tangrams. It starts out with 7 shapes which put together forms a square.

The object of this Challenge Tutorial is to make your own new shape using only the 7 shapes in the puzzle.
The rules are simple:
- You can not change the size of any individual pieces in the puzzle. You can enlarge or reduce all of the pieces but they must stay in their perspective sizes.
- No pieces may overlap.
- In the second part of the Challenge, you can use any colors, filters or effects to add to your original shape outcome but the original shape that you created must still be recognizable.
Obtaining the shapes.
- I have provided two ways for you to download the shapes. You can either copy the first graphic below and select the shapes individually to use in your favorite graphic program, or download the Zip file which contains a layered image with each layer naming the various shapes.
- If you choose to download the Layered Image, I've provided a few hints to help you position your shapes into your finished original shape.
- You will also find links to a few web sites where you might be able to get ideas for shapes as well as a little background on the objects of the game itself.
Hints.
If you download the ZIP file, once you extract it you will see that it is a layered image as shown below with each layer named to correspond with the color and the shape. |

By clicking on the layer containing the shape that you wish to move, you can then use your Mover Tool to move the shape into the position you wish.
You can also easily rotate the shape by clicking on Deform Tool . Clicking on the Deform Tool will activate the Tool around the shape on the Layer that you have highlighted as shown in the example on the right. |

|
You can change the colors of the shapes at any time, but remember to keep the original size perspectives.
- If you would like to keep your original layered shape, save as a .psp file.
- You could also surround your shape with the selection tool and click Edit/Copy Merged then Edit/Paste as New Image.
- Once you have your new image, you can select it, change the colors, use filters, effects or anything you would like to complete the project and add your name if you'd like.
- Make sure that you can still determine the original outline of the shape once you've added your finishing touches
