Paint Shop Pro - Version 8 and 9

Sparklin' Shamrock

Animating the Sparklin' Shamrock

We will only have 3 frames in our animation so this technique for Animation Shop works well.

Step One - First Animation Frame

  • Start Animation Shop. Position Animation Shop and Paint Shop Pro so that you can easily get at both of them.

  • In Paint Shop Pro hide the top two Gold Layers shown in the example on the right. It does not matter which layer you have highlighted at this point.

  • Go to Edit/Copy Merged

Hide top layers

  • Go to Animation Shop and right click anywhere on the blank canvas and a "Paste as New Animation" message will appear.

    New Animation

  • Click on that message and your first frame will show in Animation Shop.

Step Two - Second Animation Frame

  • Go back to Paint Shop Pro. Hide "Gold 1" layer and remove the X from "Gold 2" layer.

  • Go to Edit/Copy Merged

Open second layer

  • Go back to Animation Shop and right click on the Title Bar of your first frame and choose "Paste After Current Frame" from the menu.

    Second Frame

  • Your second frame has now been added to the animation.
  • If you cannot see both frames, pull the animation out to the side and both frames will be revealed. Click on the second frame to select it. It will have a blue edge around it if it is selected.

Step Three - Third (and last) Frame

  • Go back to Paint Shop Pro. Hide "Gold 2" layer and remove the X from "Gold 3" (top) layer.

  • Go to Edit/Copy Merged

Open last layer

  • Go back to Animation Shop. Make sure there is a blue border around the second frame and again right click on the Title Bar and choose "Paste After Current Frame" from the menu.

  • Your third, and last, frame has now been added to the animation.

Step four - View Animation

  • Still in Animation Shop, click on the View Animation Button  View Animation  or go to View/Animation to make sure you can see the sparklin'. If so, all you need to do is save your animation.

  • Go to File/Save As and give your animation a name. You will then be taken through a series of windows allowing you to set the quality of the animation. I have chosen the Best quality and simply clicked through the rest of the frames.

Here is my result from this tutorial. I have added a border around the Animation in HTML because it is a different color than the background on this page.

  • You can then close Animation Shop and go back to Paint Shop Pro and save your original .pspimage if you like.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks to all who try it out!
